Hulu, for example, offers a month of free viewing, while a monthlong trial subscription with Amazon Prime gives you access to its library of movies and TV shows. Netflix may have ditched its free trial, but similar services are continuing to offer one. If you’re not happy with it, you can simply cancel at the end of the month without any penalty payment. In that case, if you’re keen to take the service for a spin to find out more, you can try it for one month at a cost of $8.99.

The content can be viewed on computer or Android browser, though not via its mobile apps or a browser on an iPhone.įree content is great, but it doesn’t give potential subscribers any idea of the amount and kind of content that Netflix has to offer. The offerings currently include a number of movies, as well as the first episode of popular shows such as Stranger Things. You have the freedom to change your plan or cancel online at any time if you decide Netflix isn’t for you.”Ĭuriously, the information makes no reference to Netflix’s recently launched promotion that lets you watch a small selection of its online content for free, without having to sign up or register. There are no contracts, no cancellation fees, and no commitments. On a support page on its website with the title “Netflix free trial,” a message now reads: “Free trials are not available, but you can still sign up and take advantage of all Netflix has to offer. The free trial gave people 30 days’ access to the company’s huge library of streaming video content, but for reasons we’re yet to establish, Netflix has decided to do away with the offer. Netflix has ended its offer of a free trial of its service for customers in the U.S. There is going to be a quiz at the end though. I’m also kidding about that formula stuff – I’m terrible at math. I’m going to try my best to get the most bang for my buck out of this free trial, so keep your eyes peeled for updates throughout the month.

There’s going to be a formula that measures my time versus money versus enjoyment over the course of the month and I’ll be writing some throwback reviews for shows and movies I’ve never seen before.

I’m going to check out the Netflix exclusive series like Arrested Development and House of Cards. I would love to binge watch a lot of different series, like Breaking Bad and Battlestar Galactica, that I don’t have access to anywhere else without paying or resorting to illegal methods. Of these, I would watch or have watched four. This is my top ten selection, well… top seven shown here, without having actually watched anything yet. I’ve signed up today, June 1, 2013, and I have until Jto cancel my subscription without being charged. However, with the release of Arrested Development’s long-awaited fourth season being exclusive to Netflix and the success of other Netflix-only shows like House of Cards, which I’ve heard nothing but good things about, it might just be time to bite the bullet and test out this streaming service. Understandably, this combination was some tough competition for Netflix. So the summer before my senior year of college, when I was stuck on campus alone interning and working a job, I spent a lot of time binge-watching Hell’s Kitchen and True Blood. My parents also pay for Comcast Xfinity and a few of the premium cable channels, including HBO, Starz, Showtime, and Encore.

Hulu offered a lot of past Hell’s Kitchen episodes for free and I will literally watch everything Gordon Ramsay is in, so naturally I’ve seen every season. Other competing streaming services have also kept me from Netflix as of yet.

How many times have you come across this tempting ad? Too many times.

Seriously, how I didn’t get a gold star for will power when I graduated is beyond me. Every time I magically found myself with enough free time to start streaming something online? Wow, it is finals week – or 3 A.M., or four hours until my paper is due – this is a terrible decision. I’ve had the free-trial of Netflix on my radar since my poor college student days, but for some reason I’ve always found an excuse not to bite the bullet and test it out.

The short story here is that I’m going to test-run this free trial of Netflix, so you don’t have to! The long story here is that I’ve got a full time job, a mild social life and access to other, free-er streaming services, so I’m going to let you know if Netflix is “worth it.”
